Humans have been creating autonomous entities with superhuman capabilities for some time, now. Markets are probably the best example. A market is ultimately only a massive system of non-linear equations which is solved by successive approximations. But a market is also a gamble on chance and causality: a market economy corresponds to the gamble that unbridled chance and causality will be good for us, whilst (defunct) command economies correspond{,ed} to the idea that chance and causality have to be eliminated.
